Over the course of the next few weeks, we’re going to be providing you a different insight each week into the services and products we offer here at Classroom Kitchen.
Making cooking and nutrition fun and accessible!
At Classroom Kitchen, our most popular sessions are undoubtedly our specialised Cooking and Nutrition lessons. These sessions were thoughtfully designed to support primary teachers in delivering a vital yet often challenging part of the national curriculum. Our founder recognised that schools frequently struggle to incorporate cooking and nutrition into their timetables due to limited time and resources. That’s where we come in – providing an engaging, structured, and hands-on solution.
Each of our cooking and nutrition sessions is tailored to meet the needs of every year group, from EYFS to Year 6. We’ve developed six unique recipes and corresponding lessons for each year group, ensuring a comprehensive and progressive learning experience.

What to expect in a session:
Nutrition Lesson:
Each session begins with a nutrition-focused lesson that covers all the key elements of the national curriculum for that year group. Children learn the science of healthy eating and the importance of balanced diets in a fun, interactive way.
Hands-On Cooking:
After the nutrition lesson, the children prepare for their cooking adventure! They wash their hands, put on aprons, and follow step-by-step instructions to create a delicious dish. These sessions are led by experienced teachers who are passionate about food education and skilled at making learning enjoyable.
Follow-up Activity:
While the food is cooking, the children engage in follow-up activities designed to reinforce the concepts learned during the nutrition lesson. They are also encouraged to review their dishes and consider ways to improve them. This reflective process helps to deepen their understanding and appreciation of the skills they’ve learned.

Skills for life and memorable experiences!
Our lessons do far more than just meet the nutrition requirements of the national curriculum. They also develop a wide range of practical cooking skills. Whether the children are preparing a cold dish like Greek salad or fruit smoothies, a hot meal like paella or veggie pasta, or trying their hand at baking bread-ge-hogs or flapjacks, every child participates in every step of the process.
Some of the skills covered include chopping and slicing fruits and vegetables safely, grating and mashing a variety of ingredients, and weighing, mixing, and kneading ingredients. Each session provides children with valuable opportunities to handle food and equipment confidently and safely.
After the ingredients have been prepared, the dishes are cooked right there in the classroom. This process not only gives the children a sense of accomplishment and excitement as they see and smell their delicious food cooking, but also allows them to taste their freshly prepared meals. For many children, these sessions are the first time they try new flavours, helping them to develop a positive relationship with food.
Our Cooking and Nutrition sessions are more than just lessons; they’re an experience that builds confidence, fosters curiosity, and empowers children to make healthier food choices. By providing schools with everything they need – from expert teaching to structured lesson plans and equipment – we make cooking and nutrition fun, accessible, and impactful for every child.
