The Classroom Kitchen Cook Off is back for 2022. Schools will be competing this June for the culinary title and to boast having the best young chefs in the country. All cook offs take place online allowing schools to compete head to head with rival classes at opposite ends of the country!
Last year’s competition was a huge success with over 80 schools applying to take part in the primary school tournament. We had schools from across the UK compete in the first competition of its kind. Amazingly, we even had several guest schools apply from outside the UK with a school from the Czech Republic making the finals!
Mrs Harrison (Teacher, Beaufort Primary School) said about last year’s tournament: ‘The cook off provided our children with a fantastic opportunity to not only cook but shine. Every child that competed absolutely loved the experience and came away from the competition buzzing!’
With one entry, schools can put forward a team into each category: Key Stage 1 (5-7 year olds), Lower Key Stage 2 (7-9 year olds) and Upper Key Stage 2 (9-11 year olds). Schools then get access to Classroom Kitchen’s online hub where they can get tournament ready with whole-class practice sessions, the round details and some training videos.
Once the Cook Offs start in June, teams will join 6-8 other schools in their given slot to compete for a place in the final. Teams are sent the challenge recipe ahead of the Cook Off and on the day, simply join our online Zoom session with the ingredients ready to cook. All schools compete on camera with judges watching and speaking to pupils as the cook off goes on. They have one hour to complete the recipe and then present for final judging. From there, 2 schools from each cook off are selected to go through to the Grand Final!
James Deveney (Company Director) says, ‘Last year’s tournament was incredible! We were astounded by how many schools applied to take part and overwhelmed by the amount of sponsors that supported us too. We’re really looking forward to this year’s competition to see what wonderful creations schools come up with. Last year, one school won the Grand Final with an Alice in Wonderland 3 course meal, we were stunned! This year’s tournament promises to be even better.’
All participants receive certificates and prizes for taking part. This year the Grand Final winning school will take away a prize worth over £1000!
Thanks to some amazing sponsors, for schools to take part, there’s only a small fee of £50 +VAT.
